Reproducibility of Small-Format Laboratory Cells

For the research and development of new battery materials, achieving high reproducibility performance parameters in laboratory test cells is great importance. Therefore, present work, three typical small-format lithium-ion (coin cell, Swagelok cell EL-CELL ECC-PAT-Core) were tested compared with regard to their (discharge capacity, internal resistance coulombic efficiency). A design experiments (DOE) two factors separator type anode–cathode ratio (N/P ratio) was carried out for all cells. quality features discharge efficiency, coefficient variation used as a measure reproducibility. The statistical evaluation shows that 83% cases, higher achieved when Freudenberg instead Celgard separator. In addition, 78% cases if anode cathode are same size. general statement about which format has highest cannot be made. Rather, selection should adapted requirements. examined seem have an influence on but more insignificant than other still-unknown factors.
